Meet Cara Collins, the creative mastermind behind Slightly Fab! A professional opera singer and avid traveler, Cara was inspired to create high-quality and affordable jewelry that can be worn anywhere, anytime.
In 2021, Slightly Fab began welding Permanent Jewelry for customers across the Texas Panhandle, with a focus on a wide selection of 14k gold filled, rose gold filled, and silver chains. Slightly Fab has catered to the community at numerous events, from Pop Up events and Home Parties to Graduation Events, Teacher Appreciation Days, and Bachelorette Parties.
In June 2022, Cara moved to Chicago to pursue her operatic career at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Now that she’s settled into her new home, she’s ready to launch Slightly Fab in the Windy City and bring fabulous, affordable jewelry to all!
Why give a $#*!! about
Gold filled vs Gold plated?
Picture this: you’re out on a hot date and feeling fabulous in your shiny new jewelry. But then, horror of horrors, you accidentally spill your drink all over your necklaces and bracelets. As you frantically try to clean them up, you notice the gold finish starting to rub off, revealing the cheap, ugly metal underneath. Talk about a fashion disaster!
This is the fate that befalls those who opt for gold plated jewelry. Sure, it looks pretty at first, but that thin layer of gold is as fragile as a butterfly’s wings. With just a little bit of wear and tear, it starts to flake off, leaving you with a sad, worn-out accessory.
Enter gold filled jewelry, the superhero of the accessory world. This is a solid, thick layer of 14k gold that is heat and pressure bonded to brass. It’s like putting your jewelry in a protective force field, keeping it safe from scratches, dings, and everything else life can throw at it. Not only is gold filled durable and long-lasting, but it’s also safe for those with sensitive skin and reacts the same way solid gold would.
So, the next time you’re faced with the choice between gold filled and gold plated, remember this: one is like a delicate flower, and the other is like a superhero. Which one do you want protecting your jewelry?

Cara's Evolution
Praised by Opera News for her “power and dark hued radiance,” Cara Collins is quickly gaining attention as a rising soprano. With a lifelong passion for the arts, she feels grateful to have had the opportunity to pursue a career as an opera singer, having performed on stages across the country. Collins’ most notable performances include creating the lead role of Brittomara in the world premiere of If I Were You by the acclaimed team of Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer, as well as playing Mutter in Hänsel und Gretel at Palm Beach Opera, Tisbe in La Cenerentola and Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte at the Northern Lights Music Festival, and Flora in La Traviata at Opera Naples, among others. She has also appeared as a guest soloist with the Amarillo Symphony for Handel’s Messiah under the baton of Peter Bay. Collins’ training includes prestigious young artist residencies at Palm Beach Opera, The Merola Opera Program in San Francisco, Sarasota Opera, Opera on the James, and Opera North.
During the pandemic, Cara discovered a new outlet for her creativity: jewelry-making. She found that crafting permanent jewelry was the perfect way to continue connecting with people and expressing herself artistically, even when live performances were on hold.
Now, she is living life to the fullest balancing singing at Lyric Opera of Chicago and running Slightly Fab. Her greatest joy is connecting with others and making memories with her voice and jewelry.
